日本水獭（学名：Lutra lutra whiteleyi），是食肉目 Carnivora鼬科 Mustelidae的一种。日本水獭是欧亚水獭的一个亚种，曾分布于日本全境，现已被宣布灭绝。
动物学史
日本水獭曾被认为是独立种Lutra nippon，现已归为欧亚水獭亚种。
形态特征
体长60-80厘米，尾长35-50厘米，体重5-10公斤。毛色深褐。
栖息环境
栖息于日本的河流、湖泊和沿海水域。
生活习性
夜行性。以鱼类为主食。
分布范围
曾分布于日本本州、四国、九州。1979年后再无确认记录。
繁殖方法
妊娠期约60天。每胎产2-3仔。
保护现状
在IUCN红色名录中被评估为灭绝。最后一次确认记录在1979年。
